BarCampAdelaidePage history last edited by Andrew Fielding 3 days, 2 hours ago
BarCampAdelaide is part of BarCampAustralia. The previous BarCampAdelaide was held on the 3rd and 4th of March, 2007. We're looking to hold the next one in January or February 2009. BarCamp is an international network of unconferences — open, participatory workshop-events, whose content is provided by participants — focusing on early-stage web applications, and related open source technologies and social protocols. BarCamp is 100% non-commercial, non-profit and community driven — no one is paid for their time, no one is charged to come and no profits are made. A BarCamp is an ad-hoc gathering born from the desire for people to share and learn in an open environment. It is an intense event with discussions, howtos, demos and interaction from participants. If you want to attend, you are encouraged to give a presentation or a demo of some kind. Have a look at wikipedia for more information. We are looking for a venue and some possible sponsors for the proposed BarCamp in 2009. If you know anyone that could possibly help out, please do let us know! The BarCamp in 2009 will also include the arts, to widen the participation. The BarCamp Adelaide Facebook Group

Shame - I'll be overseas at the time.
One thing to bear in mind regarding your dates is the Open Source Developers' Conference in Melbourne on the 5-8th December '06 - try not to clash with that :-)

it might be possible to do this cheaply if we go bush a bit.
woodside coolstores might be good.
or in the mid north near peterborough.
the towns are basically for sale due to drought.
we could easily get cheap accommodation there and it would
be a real blast for the locals?

I have an idea on a location for BarCamp Adelaide:
Moana Pioneer Hall
Nashwauk Crescent
Moana SA 5169
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=Adelaide,+Australia&ie=UTF8&om=1&z=16&ll=-35.19836,138.472281&spn=0.012169,0.027122&iwloc=A
Details for the Hall:
$100 Bond
$200 Hire of the hall for the 2 days
There is a kitchen with microwave, oven, hot water, fridge etc.
We can sleep in the hall over night.
And we can get PLI though the Onkaparinga Council
There is also a caravan park next to the Moana Pioneer Hall called "Moana Beach Tourist Park" http://www.moanabeachtouristpark.com.au/

In all of these discussion keep in mind those that can only be a limited distance from town such as oncall or shift work.
Need to ensure bandwidth is available for those that work in the industry.

Hi Guys - Kim gave me a heads up on this event; i am in!
RE: the name change to "BeachCamp" - kinda destroys the whole Foo-Bar origin and detracts from the "geeki-ness"
-> "nay" vote from me.
On the other hand - i think we should call all the Australian BarCamps "BazCamp" - see BarCampAustralia page

Just been doing some research into this whole barcamp.org thing: We have our own domain http://barcampadelaide.org/
It links back to our wiki page. I encourage everyone to use it when advertising both offline and online. (Newspapers love real domain names!)
